Career
Biography

Fouad El Ouardighi is a Professor at ESSEC Business School, where his work focuses on the intersection of Operations Management, Quantitative Economics, and Dynamic System Modeling. An alumnus of excellence, he graduated as Valedictorian (Major de promotion) from the research master’s program jointly delivered by Paris X, ESSEC, and HEC Paris.

He teaches supply chain analytics, operations and project management, and quality control within the MSc and Advanced Masters programs. At the doctoral level, his courses cover supply chain management, optimal control, differential games, as well as pollution control and renewable natural resource harvesting.

Professor El Ouardighi’s research centers on promoting the use of dynamic methods in economics and management science. In supply chain management, he has been an active proponent of shifting analysis from static models to dynamic decision-making frameworks. His research on the operations-marketing interface models the dynamic coordination between corporate production capacities, advertising, and quality strategies over time. His work in ecological economics has introduced ecosystem restoration into dynamic pollution control models, analyzing how proactive restoration can prevent vital carbon sinks from shifting into pollution sources. He has also applied optimal control to global health crisis management; his study on dynamic pandemic control under social fatigue and hospital capacity constraints received the Wallace Hopp Best Healthcare Paper Award in 2026 from the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS).

His research is published across multiple disciplines in international journals such as Production and Operations Management (POMS), European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), Automatica, Economic Theory, OMEGA, Journal of Economic Dynamics and Control, and Environmental and Resource Economics.

He has held visiting positions at several international institutions, including McGill University, the Technical University of Vienna, the University of Washington (Seattle), HEC-Montreal, HEC-Paris, the University of Edinburgh, IMT-Lucca, and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).

He serves as an Associate Editor for the International Game Theory Review and regularly acts as an international expert-evaluator for research bodies and universities worldwide. His past administrative responsibilities include directing several Advanced Masters programs and coordinating the Operations Management and Decision Sciences PhD track at ESSEC.
