Abstract
Social psychology principles suggest that individuals living closer to each other are more likely to form relationships with each other as compared to those who are further away. However, research has questioned this, finding that geographically distant co-workers can feel even closer to each other than colleagues in the same office, due to ‘perceived proximity.’ This research insight explores the various strategies project managers can implement to foster close and effective working relationships at a distance which are all the more relevant given the COVID-19 experience of a shift in working habits and the continuation of distance working post-pandemic.
