Abstract
Data, and more generally information, is at the heart of every organization’s activities. As part of their digital transformation, data governance offers new opportunities for growth. Organizations without good data governance not only run increased risks, but also lose out on the potential value of their own data. Based on a barometer created within the ESSEC Information Strategy and Governance Chair, the conference takes stock of how the concept of data and information governance is perceived by French organizations, how it is implemented, and the key players involved. Various analyses are carried out to characterize the most salient dimensions of data governance in these organizations, including technological aspects, the human and cultural dimension, organizational choices and financial aspects. By cross-referencing data governance ambitions with the resources (human, organizational and technological) that organizations put at the service of these ambitions, we can establish categories and analyze how these categories are formed. This barometer is one of the tools used by the Chair which is also developing training courses for future managers, so that they can master these subjects, seize the strategic opportunities they represent, and control the risks.
