This chapter analyses local resistance to accountability systems and practices in France. Accountablity makes sense when social relationships and exchange are interpreted within a contractual framework, it does not make sense, and worse, it may hurt, when social relationships are infused by notions like rank and honour as is the case in France. The text also offers suggestions for practice as a conclusion.
