Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to highlight the various change mechanisms at work in a large multidivisional organization. These mechanisms are characterized by the limited control thatagents have on the change process. This research is based on a “historical-ethnographical” approach. It reveals several steps in the change process. First, the breaking down of old equilibria. Second, the emergence of a “collective” champion. Third, the experimentation of new forms of organization. Finally, the search for new equilibria.
