Abstract
There is mounting evidence that the portability of individual performance is low. Previous research has typically argued that mobility negatively impacts worker performance through a loss of specific human capital. In this study, I contribute to the portability literature by examining two boundary conditions of the mobility – individual performance relationship: task interdependence and the stock of team-specific human capital. Using game-level data from the ‘big five’ European football leagues, I find evidence that both task interdependence and the stock of team-specific human capital strengthen the negative impact of mobility on individual performance.
