Abstract
This paper defines a conceptual framework for information system (IS) outsourcing. We suggest to describe this phenomenon as an organizational innovation. The first dimension is related to the organizational context. It suggests to find out both intra and extra-organizational factors leading to an IS outsourcing. The second dimension is related to the organizational action. It allows us to distinguish between rational and a-rational reasons for outsourcing. This is a position paper aiming at recommending researchers to integrate all these aspects in their studies about IS outsourcing.
