Abstract
This chapter sheds light on the drivers of SIEs to go abroad, through the study of motivation factors, career anchors, and protean and boundaryless career attitudes. The results of an empirical study are presented for SIEs and traditional expatriates. SIEs display some unique characteristics in terms of what drives them to go abroad, making the study of SIEs themselves useful in comparison with traditional expatriates. This chapter also proposes future research agenda on SIEs.
