Abstract
The best scholars in urban economics and geography show how the metropolitan process has concentrated the main part of national growth since the end of the seventies. It is shown how economic, scientific and financial links have come to create an urban structure which is more and more international. These trends are analyzed, mapped and extended by a new way of looking at them which makes it possible to identify signs of a better territorial balance.
