Abstract
This book presents the results of an international and comparative study on the problems opera houses and companies face in managing an established and historic art form in a modern business environment. Some paradoxical results emerge: large auditoriums are the most often filled; their occupation rate is not dependent on ticket prices. Other results are consistent with intuition and existing theories: the effects of scale, training and Baumol’s law are at work.
