Abstract
This book presents the results of an international and comparative study on the management of opera houses. It shows that it depends strongly on the history and environment of the houses. Some paradoxical results emerge: the large auditoriums are the best filled, their occupation rate is not dependent on the ticket prices. Others are consistent with intuition and existing theories: the effects of scale and learning and the Baumol’s law are at work. This edition contains a 20-page new chapter on opera in Spain.
