This chapter examines the crisis from the point of view of the macro economist instead of trying to find the “responsibility” of micro economic agents. It analyses especially the role of monetary policy in the US and in Europe, and how central banks try to fix the problem. It draws implications as to the possible future (deflation or inflation?) and the evolution of bank credit (credit crunch?). Finally it studies the philosophy of the budgetary measures and shows the associated risks.
