Abstract
This articles discusses the saying « What’s good for GM is good for the country ». It criticizes the view that the general economic condition can be analyzed by focusing on only one sector. If there is of course a relationship between the micro and macro condition, it is at the macro level that the general economic condition must be analyzed to obtain a deep and lasting diagnosis. The French economy is not in a bad shape because of what’s going on in the housing sector, even if this sector reflects the general weakness of the economy.
