Dans la présente étude, basée sur la théorie des carrières, nous avons testé des hypothèses sur un échantillon de 303 Français expatriés, en comparant les facteurs de motivation pour aller à l'étranger et les ancres de carrière entre les expatriés des entreprises et ceux qui s'expatrient eux-mêmes. Étonnamment, nous avons constaté que les deux types d'expatriés peuvent être engagés dans une carrière sans frontières dans laquelle la poursuite de son développement personnel et professionnel sont importants.. En termes d'ancres de carrière, nous avons trouvé que le mode de vie et de l'internationalisme sont les deux points d'ancrage très important pour les deux types d'expatriés, bien que la plupart des ancres diffèrent entre ces deux groupes. Surprisingly, we found that both assigned expatriates and self-initiated expatriates can be engaged in a boundaryless career in which the pursuit of personal and professional development matters.
