The case focuses on the strategic renewal of the Degroof Petercam Foundation, which was announced and implemented in 2018, as well as its key protagonists. In the case, we focus on the evolution of the foundation's strategic approach from a conventional to a systemic one, characterized by a bold decision to fund only one new nonprofit organization annually, following a thorough and rigorous due diligence process, and committing one million euros, along with tailored coaching and non-financial support for a five-year period. Learners discover key dilemmas around the strengths and weaknesses of both approaches and understand how a systemic lens challenges established practices of organized philanthropy, both strategically and operationally."
