Abstract
Data, documents and information are playing an increasingly important role in organizations. They can be considered a necessary material input in the fabrication of a product or the development of a service. In nearly every case, they contribute to the quality of the products or services sold by enterprises or put at the disposal of third parties by organizations. They constitute, in part, their non-material patrimony. Therefore, data and information governance must be structured and its processes must be subject to considerations of quality. In this article, we study the convergence between the academic vision of the governance of data and information and its practice in organizations. We are use a systems approach for the governance of data and information to analyze the various elements and the context. We apply this approach to the practice of French organizations by means of a survey conducted among 116 organizations. We observe that there is a strong interest for the subject and there are numerous developments underway. The systems vision facilitates the analysis of this complex object that is data and information governance to highlight the results of the survey.
