"fr" => "Thanks to its strategic commitment to the development of renewable energies, Morocco is often viewed as a model for ecological transition in Africa. In this chapter, we discuss the drivers of the strategy, summarize its implementation, and assess the outcomes. While the renewable energy strategy, articulated and supervised by King Mohammed VI in 2009, has delivered tangible results and reduced, moderately, the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels, the initial goals have not been achieved, and the goal post was pushed farther in the future. Morocco’s ability to link its energy strategy, driven first and foremost by heavy dependence on imported fossil fuels, to the global climate change agenda positioned it as a good global citizen and enabled it to access substantial international, public and private, financial resources. Going forward, Morocco needs to review its initial strategy and consider new opportunities such as green hydrogen or the export of clean electricity to Europe through mega projects initiated and funded by international private investors.
