Biography

Philippe Le Corre has been a Professor of Practice in International Relations and Asian Studies since 2024, and Head of the Asia Programme at ESSEC IRENE since 2022.  He has a dual academic background in political science and Asian studies (Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales, Faculty of Law of Paris 1) and also studied at Harvard (Faculty of Arts & Science) where he was awarded the Arthur Sachs scholarship in 2003-2004. Philippe Le Corre has a wide range of international experience: senior research fellow specialising in Chinese and Asian issues for two of the largest U.S. think-tanks, Brookings Institution and Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, as well as at Harvard Kennedy School (Belfer Center, Mossavar-Rahmani Center on Business and Government), from 2014 to 2020; senior adviser to the French Minister of Defence on international affairs (and the Minister's speechwriter for international affairs) from 2004 to 2007; Asia analyst at the Ministry of Defense (2007); senior director/partner in charge of Asia at the Publicis group (Brussels, Shanghai) from 2007 to 2012; and in the early days, Asia correspondent for Radio France Internationale and the weekly Le Point. In addition to his duties at ESSEC, Philippe Le Corre is currently affiliated with the Asia Society Policy Institute (Center for China Analysis) as a Senior Fellow (foreign policy)  and Harvard's John K. Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies as an Associate in Research. He is a Research Associate with Fondation pour la Recherche Stratégique in Paris. Philippe Le Corre is also a columnist for Les Echos, Ouest France and Nikkei Asia, and a regular commentator for CNBC, CNN, BBC, Radio France and NPR. Philippe was president of the Harvard Club of France (2010-2012) and president of the Foreign Press Association in London (2001-2003).
