"en" => "In this review, we develop a framework to guide future research and to examine the execution of leadership in extreme contexts. We start by defining and distinguishing extreme contexts from crisis and other contexts. A five component typology is developed comprised of magnitude of consequences, form of threat, probability of consequences, location in time and physical or psychological-social proximity. We discuss the unique influences these components have on leadership processes in extreme contexts examining the relevance of organization types such as critical action and high reliability organizations. Further, we present a set of factors that may attenuate or intensify the dimensions comprising an extreme context, thus influencing either a team or organization's ability for adaptive leadership response. Ultimately this framework seeks to develop a richer understanding of extreme contexts to advance the future development of contextualized theories of leadership for extreme contexts."

"en" => "Leadership theories have shifted over the last few decades from a focus on managerial functions and economic leader–follower exchanges toward greater focus on the interpersonal dynamics occurring within the leadership process. Theories such as transformational, ethical, authentic, and other “newer genre” theories were created to address neglected topics such as leader vision and inspirational messages, transparency, emotional effects, morality, individualized attention, and intellectual stimulation. Critiques of these theories, however, have been raised. In this paper, we address five of those critiques and argue for the validity and practical effectiveness of the new genre theories. Further, we describe how newer genre leadership research should be viewed as a performative epistemology, entailing a process of co-creation involving scholars and practitioners. Finally, from this view, we provide general ideas for leader development"

However, simple rules may have a hierarchical structure, with some simple rules guiding others. Assuming the existence of such “keystones rules”, we establish the complexity of determining an efficient set, and therefore the necessity of using meta-heuristic approaches. We explore the development of “keystone rules” among entrepreneurs as a genetic algorithm, where the computationally hard problem of picking rules is solved by social calculation. We find that the emergent keystone rules among the observed entrepreneurs do not match existing “scientific” theories but have particular epistemic properties. The Identification of keystone rules could fill a theoretical gap between the rational decision and the social construction perspectives."

"fr" => "Leadership theories often include a contingency effect where the relationship between two or more variables is normally theorized to be monotonic, i.e., that it has a generally accepted direction—positive or negative—across the full range of the contingency variable. Most examinations of contingencies estimate how the monotonic relationship changes at mean, or near mean, levels of the moderator variable. We push the logic of moderation further to explore whether, for extra-ordinary values of the moderator, the effect may actually become non-monotonic, e.g., invert by moving from positive to negative in slope (or vice versa). Discovering such inversion effects in models of leadership would provide a deeper understanding of the operation and boundaries of theories, thereby calling for refinements of underlying theoretical assumptions. Using an innovative inductive approach, we search the leadership literature and find studies where extra-ordinary moderator values signal a potential inversion effect. We narrow onto two example leader-member exchange (LMX) studies to inductively theorize the mechanisms creating the inversion. We then generalize the logic of this mechanism to propose new theory for why such inversions might be occurring in a wider range of phenomenon beyond LMX, and discuss the associated implications for leadership and organizational theory."

"en" => "While resources are fundamental to all organizational life, implicitly they are often assumed to have a positive effect on firm outcomes. Rarely is the question asked whether an abundance of resources can actually have negative effects on the firm. In this study, we leverage a panel dataset of 4928 new firms followed over their first 4 years to explore the potentially countervailing effects of two canonical resources at founding—human capital as reflected by number of founders and financial capital as reflected by founding equity—on new venture performance outcomes. Interestingly we find that these canonical resources actually have little effect on mean performance but instead have the effect of increasing performance variability. This variability in turn increases the incidence of performance outcomes of extreme nature such as failure or fund raising. This nuance suggests that resource abundance can in fact be a mixed blessing, sometimes positive and sometimes negative. In particular, it hints at a resource curse effect that would not have been deduced if only considering mean effects and suggests the need to reexamine our approach to theory building to more fully account for how variability can help predict extreme outcomes."

However, simple rules may have a hierarchical structure, with some simple rules guiding others. Assuming the existence of such “keystones rules,” we establish the complexity of determining an efficient set, and therefore the necessity of using meta-heuristic approaches.

"en" => "Bounded-rational managerial actors struggling to process information often use a limited set of theories of action expressed as simple rules. We assume a hierarchical structure where some keystone rules play a disproportionate role in guiding action and cognitions. We establish the complexity of determining an efficient set of such keystone rules, and therefore the necessity of using meta-heuristic approaches, such as evolutionary processes where the computationally hard problem of picking an optimal set of rules is solved by a social calculation. We explore the development of keystone rules among entrepreneurs and find that the emergent keystone rules among the observed entrepreneurs do not match existing “scientific” theories but have particular epistemic properties, such as fuzziness, inconsistency, counter-factual, as well as being polymorphic and self-fulfilling. Furthermore, inductive reasoning suggest that keystones rules evolve as bundle, due to interactions inter-rules shaping the emerging set. Such bundle of keystone exhibit paradigm dynamics as they follow a sequence of punctuated equilibria. The identification of keystone rules fills a theoretical gap between rational decision and social construction perspectives."

France, a paradise for entrepreneurs! What a claim given how often the country has been painted as unfavorable in regards to entrepreneurship.\n
Even if doubts about French bashing have started to emerge, French successes in entrepreneurship are still interpreted as a sum of individual heroic actions. However, France provides one of the best opportunity ecosystems in the world. Entrepreneurs have a broad choice "clusters", those industries with critical mass to reach excellence, such as fashion, food, high-tech, energy, etc. They also benefit from exceptional success factors such as a rich heritage, outstanding human capital and a world-recognized brand. Its drawbacks, e.g., a bureaucratic administration, labor laws and costs or the tax system, are comparatively less penalizing than expected and definitively not an obstacle for ambitious entrepreneurs. \n
Illustrated by practical examples, this book demonstrates the strength and richness of an ecosystem in full contrast to its traditional stereotype.

We focus on brokerage and closure as two dimensions of social structure where tension arises between individual networking strategies and team performance. Adopting a multilevel perspective, and focusing on closed teams with the presence of a clear leader, we analyze two complementary moderators of this social dilemma that are fundamental to the existence of teams: the task complexity facing the team under consideration, and the individualist versus collectivist shared value orientation of its members. We find that an increase in either of these makes the social dilemma more likely to occur. Counterintuitive conclusions pertaining to these moderators are discussed."

"en" => "Organizational behavior theories can be subject to potential inversions in the nature of the effects expected or described (i.e., an effect inverts from positive to negative or vice versa). Yet, inversions are rarely considered or assessed. We explore three possible canonical inversions: the maximum or minimum point in a quadratic regression model, the point of intersection in disordinal interactions, and the change of slope in a moderated regression model. We describe both the motivation for, and the theoretical and empirical importance of, considering such inversions in theory-building and testing. We consider common situations in which inversions are misinterpreted empirically and present methods to conduct explorations for potential inversions. Two different cases of errors concerning inversions can occur. In the first case entailing omission, an inversion is occurring but is not observed in the sample. In the second case, researchers wrongly assume an inversion is occurring in their model, yet the prospective inversion would actually occur out of the range of possible values on the focal variable(s), and is thus not significant. We illustrate different types of inversions using simulated examples. Ultimately, we seek to encourage and equip management researchers to identify important theoretical boundary conditions imposed by inversions."

During this search, the executive team processes information that might signal the need to change, and their cognitive flexibility in processing this information affects the likelihood of such changes. While executive backgrounds affect this information processing, current literature does not identify how executive backgrounds impact the extent of change a firm undertakes. Therefore, we compare the effects of teams dominated by domain insiders, domain outsiders, and complementary teams (blending insiders and outsiders) on the likelihood of different degrees of technology change. In an examination of the population of U.S. solar photovoltaic manufacturing ventures from 1992 to 2007, we find that teams with extra-domain expertise, particularly at the CEO level, undertake more significant technology change. By contrast, intra-domain expertise has an inertial effect on change: even when combined in complementary team configurations, domain expertise reduces chances of significant technology change. These findings expand the discussion of types and antecedents of organization change, top management team composition, and the psychological foundations of strategy."

The explosion of online discussions in different types of social media provides us with a large corpus of continuous text\n
exchanges over a variety of different topics. Trying to automatically extract and mine those opinions brings up two distinct\n
but highly related problems: (i) the need of identifying relevant posts (i.e., classify posts as relevant or not to the subject of\n
interest) and (ii) extract opinions from those posts and subsequently reclassify them in different classes in order to assess\n
e.g. the importance of the different subjects/opinions. Many works rely on supervised classification methods [1], which\n
means that an already labeled dataset has been provided to the method and used to train a Machine Learning classifier.\n
These methods suffer from inherent bias, i.e., the quality classification can be biased by the labeling. For various types of\n
studies, this prohibits the use of supervised methods. In this paper, we propose the completely unsupervised extraction of\n
opinions of a specific professional group based on the posts on the social media platform Twitter. We want to focus on\n
opinions related to the professional activity of the group, which was the group of entrepreneurs but the methodology\n
described can be applied to any professional group. We used the Tweepy API [4] to collect tweets in the English language\n
and we defined the groups of interest based on the self-descriptions of the users on their profiles (self-labeled as\n
“entrepreneurs”). We collected about 47M tweets from about 24K users/entrepreneurs and around 53M tweets from 38K\n
users/general public (with the requirement not to have the above keywords on their profile), dating from September 2020\n
and back. The public set plays the role of a control group, representing the topics of the general discussions.\n
The proposed method eliminates the need of a pre-labeled training set for classifying relevant and not tweets and allows us\n
to work in an unsupervised manner and avoid bias. We rely on the fact that usually specific words or combinations of words\n
can be used to discriminate between two sets of texts when they appear frequently in one set of texts and not frequently in\n
the other set of texts. So, for each set of tweets for the entrepreneurs (ENT) and public (PUB), we find words and\n
combinations of two-words in tweets and their frequencies. Here, frequency means how many users in the ENT set and\n
respectively in the PUB set, have used one word or any combination of two words in their tweets. For each user, each word\n
or combination is just counted once. Additionally, for each set, we calculate weights:

From the five contributions selected, three challenges emerge. The first is recognizing that participants? representations about entrepreneurship play a crucial role in defining goals and impact of entrepreneurship education; second, integrating new perspectives of conceiving entrepreneurship into the current models of teaching entrepreneurship; and, lastly, facilitating the integration of entrepreneurship knowledge into practice. These challenges opened up to a conception of entrepreneurship education as a dynamic concept reflecting personal values, societal changes, and cultural differences. As a result, learning places of entrepreneurship education promotes exploration and not adaptation to existing schemes, where personal models for practicing entrepreneurship have room to emerge. Defining knowledge priorities, instead of targeting knowledge exhaustiveness, becomes of greatest importance to make entrepreneurship education?s impact more relevant."

By unique discussions of interests, we mean those that are more tweeted by these communities but rarely by public people. These discussions can be facts and/or sentiments related to some topics. Since this is a subjective problem, human intervention can lead to bias in the results. Therefore, we propose an unsupervised method with zero information about the context since prior knowledge stems from human intervention. Consequently, there is no real ground truth. To retrieve such discussions of interests, first, unique tweets (discussions) are identified in two stages. In the first stage, a scoring algorithm is proposed that gives a score to each tweet of a specific year and tweets are sorted based on their scores. Different sets of tweets are selected based on their scores and considered automatically created ground truths. In the next stage, an unsupervised convolutional neural network trained on the created ground truth is used for the classification of tweets of other years (whether they are unique to these communities). Finally, latent Dirichlet analysis is applied to the detected unique tweets to give the most common interest topics discussed by these communities. Experimental analysis is performed on tweets from 2017-2019. The results reveal these communities’ attitudes and highlight interesting common and different topics discussed between managers and entrepreneurs; some of them can be difficult for humans to predict in advance. The proposed approach is applicable to any community."

"en" => "Practitioners face a wealth of perspectives on leadership, each highlighting different dimensions to attend to as a leader. Contemporary literature, for instance, emphasizes aspects such as authenticity, vision, relationships, and being a servant leader. Regarding the process of becoming a leader, it suggests a path involving changing roles, rebuilding one’s identity, and becoming a quiet servant of one’s followers. However appropriate, these prescriptions often fail to address the misplaced expectations of practitioners, mostly lack of preparedness for people management, for its gritty realities and frustrations which sometimes resembles being dragged in the mud. This study proposes a framework whereby enactment of leadership necessitates adequate motivation and expectations. As leaders behave in patterns of cognitive, emotional, and appreciative perceptions, it proposes to approach leaders’ development as an issue of aesthetics, of taste development. The framework identifies different possible aesthetics of leadership, and suggests that the most operant aesthetic of leadership would taste less of grandiosity than of hardships."

"fr" => "A method and system for making inquiries to a large community via Internet. A requester at his system defines a request for an action or information, and it is propagated by electronic mails through a recursive process. On a Web page, the requester describes his request and specifies a reward for those acting or participating in finding those who acted successfully. Then the requester submits his request and provides the electronic mail addresses of the first persons to propagate to. In response to the submission, the server system generates electronic messages containing the request to the electronic mails identifiers given. The user system receiving one of the electronic message displays an HTML document proposing whether to act on the request or to propagate it to a list of his acquaintances creating a new level below him in the tree. By fulfilling successfully the request, a user may receive a reward. By propagating, the user can earn a reward if a respondent who fulfills successfully the request appears below him in the tree. The propagation may finish when the requester has found his answer or when the requester has decided to stop the propagation or when the propagation has reached a predetermined branch sub level. The server system then generates electronic messages to the requester, respondents and simple intermediaries in order to close the request and to distribute the rewards earned."
