The EU’s commitment to the liberalisation of trade depends on a level playing field between domestic and foreign entities based on genuine competitive advantages. But this level playing field is far from being a reality, particularly on international government procurement. Therefore the Commission‘s role is to defend European interests against international trade distortions.
