Abstract
While European integration has progressed in many areas, entrepreneurship has lagged behind the general movement and is still largely a national, not to say local phenomenon. This paper asks why the domestic character of entrepreneurship is problematic for Europe’s long term competitiveness, discusses some explanatory factors of the status quo, and makes suggestions as to how the creation and development of pan European high growth ventures could be stimulated.
