Abstract
From the mere protection of neighbours in the 18th century, the protection of the environment has evolved toward the protection of nature which now involves the survival of humanity. In this communication, the impact of the environment on economic development is considered at three levels : the responses to global (world) environment deterioration, damage at a regional level, the need to improve the environment of cities.
