The hotel product is increasingly being sold electronically, and price has been identified as one of the key motivators for encouraging customers to book online. This paper outlines the current state of hotel online distribution, and highlights the growing importance of Internet based intermediaries. These represent a significant threat to the future profitability of hotels, as in addition to providing a more comprehensive range of facilities, such sites frequently offer cheaper prices than can be obtained directly from the supplier.
