The French REITs: The SIICs Regime (Doublon)
The French REIT or SIIC (Société d¿Investissement Immobilier Cotée) regime was introduced in France in 2003. At that time, France was the third country in Europe to follow the US REIT model, after the Netherlands (FBI in 1969) and Belgium (SOCAFI in 2003). The regime has helped France¿s listed property sector to grow rapidly, and the number of listed property companies who have opted for the SIIC regime has increased four-fold, from 11 in 2003 to 48 at the end of 2007. The paper gives an overview of the French regime.
