Abstract
How is strategic renewal orchestrated in practice, at various levels of analysis and over time in organizations? Answering this question with a practical perspective requires considering and relating multiple levels of analysis, from the micro dimensions of individual behaviors and backgrounds to the more macro levels of the organization and the institutional and competitive fi elds it is engaged in, especially to account for their interdependencies. Based on the both an ethnographic inquiry and an industry analysis, we show that strategic renewal is the orchestration of heterogeneous practices, entrenched in social and material considerations, and dynamically constructed by the members of the organization.
