Regulatory Competition, Extraterritorial Powers and Harmonization: The Case of the European Union

The main objective of this essay is to understand to what extent trade between European Union (EU) countries has been freed of national regulations functioning as non-tariff trade barriers. It more particularly deals with regulations directly affecting the production and sale of goods and services, exclusive of such important matters as regulation of production factors and common policies.
