The reduction of working time is a question that is regularly tackled in the states of the European Union. It appears as a potential solution for unemployment and, as such, it preoccupies governments as a well as firms and staffs. Nevertheless, there is little progress to be accounted for. The action of the European Union is limited in this field. Actually, the reduction of working time remains a national or sector-related question, or it can depend on specific initiatives such as that of Volkswagen.
