Abstract
From 1978 to 2003, the Champagne wine market grew on average 3% a year, while prices in constant euros remained stable. Champagne makers, called “Maisons de Champagne”, contemplate their development in the framework of legal limited supply in grapes (due to yearly yield and size limit of the protected area of origin) and competition from wine and spirits. Major factors of performance are studied from a sample of 20 Champagne wine makers using available financial data over the 1992-2001 period. Future prospects are analysed.
