Abstract
Based on Bourdieu’s practice-habitus-field, this research postulates that knowledge is permanently created, used or reconstructed in and for practice. This may help to overpass the contradictions faced by research on learning and knowledge: the link between individual and collective knowledge and learning, between tacit and explicit knowledge, practical and cognitive dimensions of knowledge. From this framework and through an empirical case study (based on a 22-month observation, with interviews of 51 persons, observations of meetings and analysis of written documents) this research proposes a typology of the knowledge dynamics involved in management control practices: mapping the field, assigning value to practice, developing dispositions and building causal relationship on action.
