Method Engineering: Reflections on the Past and Ways Forward
Method engineering (ME) is the process of designing, constructing and merging methods and techniques to support information systems development (ISD). It has taken many forms and yet still the basic problems of controlling the systems development process remain. Even in its most recent forms, as tools and capabilities embedded within enterprise resource planning (ERP) system infrastructures, problems still persist. This paper reflects on the genealogy of method engineering and looks to how it must evolve to meet the needs of contemporary IS development.
