Abstract
In an increasingly global world, expatriation may seem “self-evident.” However, research and exchanges between international mobility professionals indicate that expatriation presents many obstacles to be overcome. This article addresses five key questions, namely: (1) What personal characteristics can I develop and put forward for a position abroad? (2) How do I further the international adjustment of my spouse and my children; (3) What can my employer do to support my international success? (4) How do I prepare for an expatriation? And (5) How do I recognize and value the skills acquired during expatriation for my career? All these questions are the subject of practical recommendations to facilitate the success of expatriation.
