This article investigates the compatibility between liberal ideas and the teaching of economics. It reminds us that the roots of classical liberalism and of economic thought are one and the same. It also shows the role of Friedrich Hayek and Hilton Friedman in the development of modern economy. Finally, it shows the importance of the contribution of members of the Mont Pèlerin society (of whom several are Nobel Price laureates) to modern economic thought
