Abstract
This case describes the strike of the French National Team Les Bleus and the events that led to the collective refusal of the players to train two days before a decisive match during the World Cup 2010 in South Africa. The case focuses on the roles of the coach and the players before and during the strike. The case addresses a range of leadership challenges including questions of leadership style and authority, the importance of interpersonal skills, and situational leadership aspects such as leadership style adaptation and the maturity levels of group members. What sets the case apart from many other examples on leadership is the case’s setting in a context highly exposed to the public and the media.
