Abstract
Building on the theory outlined by Harvard professor Michael Porter in the Competitive Advantage of Nations, this article highlights the success factors of cities in ten different countries facing global competition, the impact of clusters and the importance of industrial traditions in its analysis. Some key factors considered relate to aspects of location such as the existence of universities, research institutions, transportation and wages.
