This book tels the story of the Jews who two centuries ago lived in Eastern Europe. They were atracted by the Empire's big cities from which they were roughly expelled. Finally, following the pogroms trigered by Alexander II assassination two million of them immigrated to the United States. Their descendants achieved remarquable financial and intellectual successes. These can be explained by their urban culture and desire to acquire human capital.
