Abstract
Administration and management sciences from the very beginning of their history, locked themselves in a representation-based paradigm. this can be observed clearly in the “design-execution” dichotomy (Taylor) or in decision theories (Simon). Rather than trying to objectify knowledge, it is more interesting to challange the knowledge concept by considering sensemaking and activity issues as central. It becomes then possible to introduce the situated interpretation of activity by actors and sensemaking in the course of action as key issues for research. Such an approach, inspired by american pragmatic philosophy (Pierce, Dewey), views “design” first as the “designing” collective activity.
