Abstract
A decisionmaker, whose optimal decision is state dependent, has to take an action in an uncertain environment. An expert, whose utility is monotonic in the action, has access to a verifiable evidence production technology. If the expert is fully informed about the state, then the intuitive criterion selects the equilibrium where the decisionmaker fully infers the state by observing the level of the created evidence. If the expert is uninformed at the beginning of her investigation, then the information is produced as a by-product of the evidence production technology. In that case, there exists no equilibrium where the generated information is fully revealed to the decisionmaker.
