Abstract
In this paper we begin by questioning whether or not Ethics can be taught as a subject. Several historical reasons imply that such a teaching can no longer be avoided. We show how the Christian concept of individualism has replaced the ancient traditions of classical rationalism and challenged some of the major contentions of the Bible. We deduce the contemporary idea of social responsibility from that of individualism.
