Abstract
This communication analyses the social dimensions of the translation of management-related Anglo-American words. The example of the word ‘accountability’ suggests that (i) the absence of translation into French mirrors the local illegitimacy of the representations encapsulated in the Anglo-American concept, (ii) for fifty years however, in a discontinuing way, the diffusion of the concept has used various linguistic coinages that have been consistent with the ideological representations of the times.
