Abstract
The concept of “corporate culture” has penetrated all fields of management. This paper describes the main characteristics of this concept within the various fields of management and discusses the main criticisms encountered throughout the research process. Finally it proposes a conception of culture that overcomes these criticisms, that being, culture as a resource. Three main points are used in the definition of resource : the operating level of culture, the methods by which culture is assessed and the role of culture in the process of change.
