This book is a practical introduction to the main phases of relational database design. It includes conceptual modeling using ER formalism, logical relations design, physical design including denormalization and optimization techniques, implementation (advanced SQL). To deal with existing ill-structured relational databases, a reverse engineering phase is proposed. Each phase is illustrated using several case studies.
