Abstract
Asia’s financial crisis became an economic crisis because insufficient attention has been paid to market competition and economic efficiency. This crisis illustrates the trade-off developing countries may face between short-term expansion, market power and corruption, on the one hand, and sustainable development and efficiency, on the other hand.
