Abstract
After two decades of profound reforms, which have ensured macroeconomic stability, growth and a sharp reduction in inequality, Brazil appears to be returning to more risky economic policies. As for the recent popular mobilisations, beyond the occasional price protests, they undoubtedly reflect a more general political malaise that affects the functioning of the state and the quality of Brazilian democracy.
