<p><b>Aurélien COLSON est professeur de science politique à l'ESSEC, où il dirige l'Institut de recherche et d'enseignement sur la négociation (IRENE Paris, Singapour & Bruxelles) depuis 2008. </b>Premier pôle académique en négociation en Europe par ses activités de recherche, de terrain et de formation, l'IRENE intervient chaque année auprès de 3.000 cadres d'organisations privées et publiques, dans 82 pays à ce jour. <p>A l'ESSEC, Aurélien Colson enseigne depuis 1998 la négociation et la gestion des conflits en formations initiale et exécutive (Grande école, masters, Executive MBA). Il y dirige les filières "Géopolitique et négociation", et "Géopolitique, Défense & Leadership". Il coordonne des programmes de formation à la négociation pour l'ENA (depuis 2002), le ministère des Armées et l'Ecole de Guerre (depuis 2013), le ministère des Affaires étrangères (2010-2018 et depuis 2020), la Commission européenne (2008-2015). Il est régulièrement invité par des universités étrangères. En 2014, il fut Visiting Professor à King's College London (War Studies Department).</p>\n

<p>En négociation, conduite du changement et résolution de conflits, il est intervenu dans une quarantaine de pays en conseil, accompagnement et formation auprès d'entreprises et d'organisations. Il a mené des missions de réconciliation dans des pays en situation post-conflit. En 2010, il a été élu administrateur du <i>European Peacebuilding Liaison Office </i>; il a été réélu en 2012. De 2015 à 2017, il a siégé à l'<i>Advisory Board </i>du <i>European Institute for Peace</i>. De 2012 à 2021, l'Union européenne lui a confié la direction de l'Equipe de gouvernance, qui soutient la mise en oeuvre dans une soixantaine d'Etats des Centres d'Excellence de l'UE pour la prévention des risques et menaces NRBC.</p>\n

<p>Aurélien Colson est l'auteur ou le co-auteur de 7 ouvrages traduits en 15 langues, dont <i>Mediation. Negotiation by other moves </i>(Wiley, 2021), <i>Méthode de négociation </i>(avec A. Lempereur, Dunod, 2004, 2010), <i>The First Move: A Negotiator's Companion </i>(with A. Lempereur, Wiley, 2010), <i>Méthode de médiation. Au cœur de la conciliation </i>(avec A. Lempereur et J. "fr" => "Le 500e anniversaire du Prince (1513) invite à explorer la conception de la négociation chez Machiavel, telle qu’elle apparaît dans ses différentes œuvres, rédigées après avoir effectué de nombreuses missions diplomatiques. Pour Machiavel, préoccupé avant tout par l’ordre de la Cité et par la force sous sa forme extrême – la guerre –, la négociation n’est que seconde dans l’ordre de l’esprit ; mais elle n’est certainement pas secondaire dans l’ordre du réel. Elle est un outil important de l’action du Prince via ses ambassadeurs, pour lesquels Machiavel rédigea plusieurs instructions diplomatiques. Y transparaît une conception de la négociation associée à la ruse et dominée par la question du secret : comment conserver le sien et percer celui d’autrui."

"fr" => "Approfondir la réflexion sur la négociation du point de vue de la science politique s'avère logique autant que prometteur. Logique, d'une part. Y invite, tout d'abord, un creuset historique commun à la négociation et aux objets traditionnels de la science politique. Ensuite, épistémologiquement, en tant que domaines de savoir et objets de recherche, la " négociation " et la " science politique " offrent d'intéressantes ambivalences communes. Enfin, la négociation renvoie à des enjeux pratiques, convoque des acteurs ou interroge des concepts qui sont de longue date explorés par la science politique. Prometteur, d'autre part. Cette connexion intime entre négociation et science politique étant posée, cet article ouvre plusieurs pistes de recherche possibles. Il propose une lecture politique du hiatus entre " l'Âge de la négociation " (Zartman) et la difficile acclimatation de celle-ci en France. L'article pose in fine la question de la critique politique de la négociation, et d'un possible retour de balancier en sa défaveur."
"en" => "To investigate negotiation further from the viewpoint of political science proves as logical as fruitful. This paper shows that negotiation and the traditional topics of political science have a similar historical background in common. Besides, epistemologically, as academic fields and research area, negotiation and political science share a set of interesting ambivalences. Last, negotiation relates to practical challenges, summons actors, or questions concepts that are at the core of political science. Thanks to these connections between negotiation and political science, the lenses of this latter discipline prove useful, and the paper opens some potential research areas, namely a political analysis of the gap between the "Age of negotiation" (Zartman) and the difficult development of negotiation in France. Last, the contributions reflects on the political critiques addressed to negotiation in France, and which factors could swing the impetus against negotiation."

"fr" => "Cet article dresse la carte des questions à poser quand on conçoit une simulation. Il examine les effets des formats adoptés sur les enseignements qu’en tirent joueurs et chercheurs (découvrir que les conditions d’une prise de décision sont plus complexes qu’on ne le croit ; trancher entre méthodes, théories ou concepts rivaux). Simuler appelle l’empathie pour des points de vue autres que le sien, accroit la capacité à maîtriser le raisonnement contrefactuel, révèle les effets de la procédure sur les résultats, enrichit la compréhension des obstacles éthiques à la réalisation d’expériences en sciences sociales. En contrepartie, l’exercice exige des ressources nouvelles pour le concevoir, le préparer, le réaliser, l’évaluer et l’améliorer."

"fr" => "L'article analyse dans quelle mesure le secret a émergé comme une norme incontestée des négociations internationales au lendemain de la Renaissance. La première section présente six négociateurs clefs dans l'Europe du 17ème siècle : Hotman, Mazarin, Wicquefort, Rousseau de Chamoy, Callières et Pecquet. Grâce à une analyse de leurs écrits, les sections suivantes démontrent que si l'ambassadeur devait, en représentantion, apparaître dans la lumière de la Cour (2), sa préoccupation constante était le secret (3). Comme protéger ses secrets vis-à-vis de tiers (4) et comment percer ceux d'autrui (5) constituaient un défi permanent, établissant le secret vis-à-vis de tiers comme un paradigme de la négociation moderne."

Le contenu des mandats dévoilés fin 2014 et début 2015 montre une Commission concentrée sur des objectifs offensifs larges, au détriment de ses « lignes rouges »."

We argue that harnessing the ends rather than the means is the key to meeting sustainability challenges within business schools. The conceptual basis of our program provides broad avenues for business school pedagogy. The pedagogy relies on students’ sense of meaning and practical wisdom to raise empathy, awareness of the common good, and the fundamental relevance of such empathy and awareness for the business world. This implies taking a step back from the traditional instrumental approach to business education and, more broadly, to careers and business."

"en" => "This paper analyses the historical move, and its underlying political meaning, which modified the role of secrecy towards third-parties in diplomatic negotiation. An evident norm from the Renaissance, secrecy could veil both the negotiation process and its outcome. It was then contested from the Enlightenment to Wilson¿s ambition of an open diplomacy. In contemporary times, an injunction of transparency gradually exposes negotiation arenas and processes. Following this perspective, the paper examines the justifications and risks of secrecy and transparency towards thirdparties. As neither can permanently exclude the other in the negotiator's strategy, it is shown that secrecy and transparency constitute a dilemma between efficiency of the process and legitimacy of the outcome."
